Maja Hill

Maja Dzartovska Hill (born Maja Dzartovska in 1976) is a Macedonian artist.

Maja was born in Skopje, in the Republic of Macedonia where she lived with her sister Olja and father Stefan (CEO of Macedonia telecom) and mother Lilijana (lawyer for the city museum). She paints mostly in oil but is also known for work in mosaics and fresco. Dzartovska-Hill is known largely for portraits and cityscapes, and has exhibited around the world including London, New York and Paris.

At the age of 14 she was accepted to study at the Lazar Licenoski Art High School, staying here until she won a place in the art faculty at the coveted Kiril and Metodij University aged 18.

In 2000 Hill won the portrait award at the National Society of Macedonian Artists (DLUM) annual exhibition. In the autumn of that year held her first open solo exhibition in the Gallery of the City Skopje. It consisted of 70 paintings. From here Hill went on to make a career as an artist, mostly through portrait commissions but also through other art related projects including book art and collaborating in a UN project to deliver art training to underprivileged Roma (gypsy) children. Each year Maja would attend art residencies while her paintings travelled for exhibitions in New York, Paris and throughout Europe.

In 2002 Maja moved to Paris to enter the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris and to exhibit and work in the city. Hill then moved again to the UK to undertake her post-graduate degree incorporating her developing interest in animation and digital interactive art.

Between 2006-7 Maja studied for her diploma in character animation at Central St. Martins in London.

Dzartovska-Hill now paints in the UK on a commission basis, lives in the United Kingdom, and exhibits both there and in Europe; for several years she has also worked in creating digital images, in 3-D under the auspices of Project Labyrinth, Little Louise and a variety of 2-D animation projects. She has her base at the studios of Hill-Hamilton Marketing Media & Web Design where she fulfills a role as artistic director while lecturing part-time at her local University, painting and exhibiting, lecturing with the London Art College and delivering private tuition. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maja_Hill
